Message from the President
We truly are in exciting times as healthcare leaders and constituents! The healthcare industry is literally buzzing with activity, with many changes taking place. On August 29, 2014, the Final Rule for Meaningful Use Stage 2 was formalized, with much of the healthcare community revealing mixed reactions. We continue to see a rise in healthcare data breaches, with the Center for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) and the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) responding with a increasing number of planned HIPAA audits.

Academic Alliance Community - Save the Dates!
The Academic Alliance Community is focused on “Bridging the gap between academia and industry” and has been expanding its engagement with local student organizations and the academic community in Southern California since 2008. By integrating university thought leaders and students, the SoCal HIMSS chapter is creating and fostering a new set of thought leaders to meet the future challenges and issues in HIT.

The Connected Patient Initiative
As Jim Brady outlines in his President’s Message, without a doubt, HIMSS Southern California is on the leading edge of the healthcare transformation underway across our nation and participates in both regional and national industry initiatives.
Our Chapter is supporting the new Patient Engagement initiative being launched by National HIMSS. The HIMSS Patient Engagement framework provides a five-milestone roadmap for health providers looking to support patients through the use of IT tools and resources: inform me, engage me, empower me, partner with me, and support my e-Community.
