There are many approaches to integrating clinical technology but they may not fully support an organization’s automation strategy. Closed, proprietary systems provided by device vendors still limit data portability. Clinical decision support (CDS) algorithms that use this data continue to advance, but adoption is slow and limited by the ability to include all of the necessary data sources. Purchase and implementation costs can restrict access to these newer technologies. This talk will discuss a holistic approach to creating a CDS strategy that leverages clinical technology integration, intelligent data visualization, and efficient use of mobile communication tools. The strategic template draws from the use of standards and best practices drawn from both Healthcare IT and clinical practice at a large, academic medical center.

Jennifer Jackson is the Director for Connectivity for Masimo Corporation. Her responsibilities include the development of strategic initiatives for the connectivity platform while working with customers, vendor partners, and professional organizations to create effective solutions. She is certified as a Clinical Engineer, has a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Babson College. She is the previous chair of the Medical Device and Patient Safety Task Force of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and is a past president of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE). She has been recognized internationally for her work, including receiving the 2015 ACCE/HIMSS Excellence in Clinical Engineering and Information Technology Synergies Award as well as the ACCE 2015 Professional Achievement in Technology Award.
