Hurricane Harvey recently devastated the livelihood of many coastal residents. Many fled their homes and were cared for in Mega-shelters across the State. Medical care in these shelters was provided mostly by volunteers who spent long hours in unusually sparse conditions. Having patient medical records electronically available to treat displaced patients at the point of care was critical in providing quality and effective treatment. This presentation provides an overview of how the Texas HIEs impactfully provided this service for the first time during a disaster.
