For the fourth year in a row, Susan Rueckwald, New York State Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) Chapter Board Secretary, worked with NY Senator Kemp Hannon on the legislative resolution for Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Week in NYS. This year, NYS HIT Week is October 8 - 12, 2018. The purpose of NYS Health IT Week, which coincides with National Health IT week, is to increase awareness of health information technology.  Health IT issues encompass not only the daily use of electronic medical records (EMRs) in a physician’s office or emergency room. There are a myriad of HIT issues that aim to increase quality of patient care, improve the health of populations, and reduce costs of care. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) precipitated the digital healthcare revolution. HIT issues now encompass, but are not limited to, health data privacy and security, telehealth, health data analytics, population health management, payment reform, health information exchange (HIE), system interoperability and health insurance availability.
