Visual Analytics: Displaying Information for Decision Making

Thursday, May 16th, 5:30 – 7:30pm

Join us for a learning dinner at Samford University - Dr. David Robbins will discuss Visual Analytics, and dinner will be served. The event is free, but registration is required. Presented by David E. Robbins, PhD, Assistant Professor.  Dr. Robbins has worked in health informatics for seven years, with scholarship emphasizing the creation and evolution of analytical ecosystems of public health datasets in clinical and population health contexts.  He has taught computer science and informatics for over five years, primarily at the graudate level.  Dr. Robbins has over 15 years of professional experience implementing information systems in a diverse set of disciplines.

Analytics is about using information to make decisions. Visual analytics takes this process to the next level, allowing us to communicate information and show relationships with much greater density and better clarity. In this seminar we’ll examine both the principles of displaying information visually and the practical steps we can take to make that information more decisive in presentation. With visual analytics, a picture really is worth a thousand words.
