Join us for a presentation by Mari Savickis, CHIME’s Vice President of Federal Affairs who will offer a policy update from Washington on the status of the latest thinking in Washington on CMS reporting programs, regulatory reform efforts, the status of the 21st Century Cures health IT provision, activity on the Hill, and where things are heading for 2018. Her presentation will be followed by a reactor panel that will tackle how these policies are playing out on the frontlines, what’s working and what needs fixing, and their recommendations for policymakers.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

Mari Savickis is a seasoned health care policy expert with nearly two decades of experience derived from working both within and outside the federal government. She joined the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) in 2015 as their Vice President of Federal Affairs. In this capacity, she oversees all advocacy and interaction with federal agencies and the White House. She manages a wide swath of health IT policy priorities including the Meaningful Use program (MU), cybersecurity, quality measurement, patient safety, The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), interoperability policies, and patient identification.  She is a subject matter expert on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) and has extensive knowledge of the Medicare program.

Prior to joining CHIME, she served as Assistant Director of Federal Affairs at the American Medical Association (AMA) for almost a decade leading their health IT and HIPAA advocacy.  She formerly served in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) initially entering the federal government after being selected for the highly competitive Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program.  She also served as staff to the Delaware General Assembly.

Mari graduated from the University of Delaware with a Master’s in Public Administration and dual bachelor degrees in political science and Spanish from Ohio Wesleyan University.

REACTOR PANEL:

Kari Vanderslice is a Healthcare IT Specialist with Health Services Advisory Group (HSAG). She is part of the direct technical services team working with over 4,000 providers in Arizona. As part of the federal effort to help health care providers with MACRA, she assists practices in developing a plan to participate in MIPS.

Kari Vanderslice joined HSAG in January of 2011, bringing with her an extensive consulting background. She served as a Senior Systems Analyst for Accenture, a Quality Analyst for Quality Care Solutions, Inc. and provided services as an Implementation Specialist for Towers Perrin. Kari’s healthcare-related project experience includes work with EHR software, Health Care Software Testing, Medicaid Health Plans, HIPAA Implementations, and Health Benefit Systems.

Kari’s Master of Business Administration was earned at Old Dominion University and she holds Health Care IT Certifications from Gateway Community College.

With over 20 years in the healthcare industry, Heather J. Lorig is truly a passionate administrator who focuses on delivering high quality, cost effective patient care. She started her career as a night shift nursing assistant at Desert Samaritan on the orthopedic unit. Heather is now a Registered Nurse, who also holds a Master’s degree in Community Counseling and Social Work, a Doctorate in Psychology in a Healthcare setting, and is currently completing her second Doctorate in Business Administration in Healthcare. She is currently the Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance for Dignity Health Medical Group in Arizona, where she has been for the past 2 years. Prior to that, she was with National Surgical Hospitals for 12 years, improving their quality care and regulatory compliance.

Lori Young has worked within the healthcare industry for more than 20 years, the past 18 years as the Office Manager for a busy primary care practice in a retirement community in Chandler, AZ. The practice provides care to 400-450 patients per week. Lori manages three physicians and two mid-level providers and 16 staff members. The practice has a demographic that is heavily weighted with Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients. Over the past five years she has managed the transition of this private practice from paper charts to an EHR, the conversion to ICD10, and the implementation of the Medicare guidelines associated with the affordable care act including the challenges associated with complying with the requirements for Meaningful Use, MACRA, AWVs, and hospital follow ups. Her position entails working closely with the Medicare, Medicare advantage plans, Dignity Health’s ACN, her practice’s commercially insured patients, and her in-office Sonora Quest Lab.
