Program Description

The District of Columbia State Medicaid Health IT Plan (2018-2023)

This past September the HIMSS National Capital Area Chapter began providing chapter, regional and national awareness of the District of Columbia as amicrocosm of the opportunities and challenges facing Federal, State and Local officials. HIMSS NCA wanted to address population health, access to care, and how health IT is enabling better and more cost effective care. Our Chapter’s commitment is to continue providing awareness of and championing progress with the District of Columbia. Join us on January 24th at 3 PM (EST) for aone hour webinar on the recently approved District of Columbia State Medicaid Health IT Plan for 2018-2023. We had brief previews at our HIMSS NCA program meetings in September, October, and November as part of the Blum Report. This web session will go into much greater detail and will highlight how to engage, work with and volunteer with the District.

The District’s state Medicaid agency, the Department of Health Care Finance, is charged with advancing the use of information technology among health providers in the District. Through the stakeholder-centered planning process, DC has made tremendous progress in the past two years, planning, developing and implementing health IT and HIE services.

Dr. Erin Holve, Director of the Department of Health Care Finance Reform and Innovation Program (HCRIA) and her team will present the District’s plan and discuss related topics. They will describe efforts to align delivery system initiatives to ensure providers have access to the right health information at the right time to treat their patients.  In addition, this presentation will share ongoing activities within the District’s health IT program and identify opportunities for regional HIMSS members to learn more and get involved inDC’s public advisory committee on HIE as well as better understand at the regional and national level the current state of HIEs.

For questions or clarification please contact Dan Blum, HIMSS NCA Advocacy and Community Outreach Chair at danieleblum@aol.com who will be hosting this webinar along with Evelyn Gallego, HIMSS NCA HIE Chair.
