Message from the President
Let us ring in the New Year with joy and more Health IT! 2015 was another excellent year with continued innovation and advancements in healthcare technology.
Let us look for trends in 2016:
- Ah! The election. A great thing to watch out for and its impact on healthcare IT. Crystal ball? Anyone?
- Another host of healthcare software vendor mergers and acquisitions. 2015 gave us an insight into these transactions. Highlights include CPSI with Healthland, Dell and EMC, Accenture and Sagacious, IBM and Merge, and KPMG and Beacon. For a broader list : Mergers and Acquisitions
- Expect to see more growth in Telemedicine and Data Security
- Stage 3 Meaningful Use saw over 18 pages of comments. 2016 hopefully will give us some “clear” direction
- Top Predictions for Population Health Management in 2016 and Beyond
- Overused words Interoperability and Patient Engagement might be still around

New CPHIMS and CAHIMS Recipients

In 2015, our Southern California Board established a new Professional Development Committee and outlined several objectives to facilitate professional advancement for our Members. In alignment with the HIMSS National professional development initiatives, our Chapter Board also set a goal to support and expand the professional certification of our Chapter Members.
In November, our HIMSS SoCal Chapter hosted full-day CPHIMS and CAHIMS Review Courses at National University in Costa Mesa. The events generated significant interest and we had oversold events with many members on a waiting list to attend.

In December, HIMSS SoCal held our 8th Annual CIO Forum “Sustaining Your Competitive Advantage”, at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. This always sold-out event featured industry CIO leaders from large, statewide delivery networks, community hospitals, and regional healthcare systems, all focusing on specific growth strategies and creating platforms for innovative growth.

Southern California is one of largest chapters of HIMSS in. Our purpose is to bring health care professionals together to promote the exchange of experiences and knowledge among colleagues and to assist members in their professional growth.
Our chapter’s leaders come from diverse backgrounds, all involved in some aspect of health care information systems and management consisting of professionals from hospitals, clinic organizations, third-party payers, administrators, information technology vendors, nurses, consultants, physicians, and essentially anyone interested in the trends of health care information and management systems.
