UHIMSS December 2014

UHIMSS Presidents Message - Julie Beard

It has been a whirlwind of membership opportunities in November and in December. While we typically do not schedule multiple events in the same month, the unique invitation to participate at no cost in the first ever Tri-chapter collaborative luncheon event with the Utah Healthcare Executives, Independent Chapter of the American College Healthcare Executives and the Utah Medical Group Management Association was an incredible opportunity. Members were able to enjoy the Gartner Village holiday atmosphere, enjoy a wonderful lunch, network with other administrative and executive leaders in our healthcare community and learn from an informative executive panel addressing healthcare IT decisions. While our motivational speaker could not attend our Holiday Luncheon due to a serious accident, members were able to enjoy a complimentary wonderful lunch, network and listen to a quick update on committee progress. We will be looking for the possibility of rescheduling our motivational speaker next year. It is exciting what the committees are working on and are making fantastic progress.

Please refer to the UHIMSS website for more details on 2014 committee objectives. We do have some exciting events coming up. Make note of the upcoming Dec. 19, IC3 Beacon webinar on the project outcome, benefits and next steps as Utah is one of a few states that received this federal grant. The 360 Encompass: Clinical Documentation Improvement, Computer Assisted Coding & Quality Analytics Webinar is now rescheduled for Jan. 15. Also, we have an exciting Day on the Hill planned on Feb. 25. It will not be long before our May Spring Conference and we are actively planning for that event. We appreciate our two new Board Members, Mike Nelson, Director Leavitt Partners and Keith Tintle, CEO of Timpanogos Regional Hospital who will serve as Chair and Co-Chair of the Spring Conference Committee.

More details on our upcoming events are available on the UHIMSS website. If you were unable to attend an event or want to review what you heard, events hosted by UHIMSS are broadcast to remote members with the recording posted on the UHIMSS website. The broadcasting and recording has been made possible through IHC.

November has been an exciting time to recognize some of the amazing accomplishments of national healthcare leaders right here in our community. Dr. Stanley Huff and Dr. Nancy Staggers who recently received national recognition through AMIA. We also want to congratulate Dr. Nebeker for passing his Clinical Informatics Boards.

Some chapters have created groups to help in CPHIMSS certification for members. If you are interested in being part of a group to aid in this process, please contact Rudy Matthes at Rudy.Mathes@hsc.utah.edu.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your President, work with such a talented Board and welcome your feedback at jgbeard1@gmail.com. I extend a warm welcome to our new members. I wish each of you a peaceful and cherished holiday season.
