Call To Action

HIMSS Certification
Professional certification demonstrates a standard of professional knowledge and education. Many organizations require that candidates have certification and encourage current employees to obtain certification.

By getting certified, professionals can:

  • Distinguish themselves in an increasingly competitive marketplace
  • Expand career opportunities
  • Validate knowledge, competency and credibility
  • Gain skills and tools to help you make a difference in the organization and community
  • Demonstrate your commitment to continuing professional development
  • Gain a sense of personal and professional achievements

Consider integrating HIMSS Certification into chapter activities this year, or make a plan to going forward.  Host a CPHIMS review course or exam in the chapter’s region.  Promote HIMSS Certification during chapter activities.  Invite a HIMSS Professional Development staff member to speak at upcoming events and better education membership of the benefits.

Remember that all chapter education hours automatically count towards HIMSS Certification application or renewal. To learn more about HIMSS Certification, contact  Morgean Hirt, ACA (Contractor)
Director of Credentialing, HIMSS at (703) 722-0580.

HIMSS Approved Education Partner
Chapter leaders often collaborate with the local education community and academia.  Consider sharing the new HIMSS Approved Education Partner program with collaborative students, faculty and institutions.

An Approved Education Partner is an organization that has met rigorous educational and content requirements and is approved by HIMSS to offer health information technology training.  The HIMSS AEP designation demonstrates that an organization meets or exceeds HIMSS’ quality educational programming standards and can deliver world-class, effective health IT training and education.

Nursing Informatics Workgroup & Taskforce
The Nursing Informatics (NI) field is growing substantially. As these roles vary throughout healthcare organizations, it is vital to have job descriptions that can be referenced for needed competencies. This workgroup will explore careers within nursing informatics to create standardized job descriptions that can be used to educate and expand the knowledge of individuals- from new nurses who want to learn about nursing informatics careers, to existing nursing informaticists who want to broaden their career choices. This workgroup will meet on a monthly basis under the leadership of the valued HIMSS NI Committee members and co-chairs Nancy Beale, MSN, RN-BC, vice president, clinical systems and integration, NYU Langone Medical Center, and Bonne Farberow, MSN, RN-BC, population health executive, Cerner Corporation. Contact Trisha Pongco, coordinator, clinical informatics, HIMSS North America, for more information. Join now.

Additionally, the new HIMSS Nursing Informatics Education and Networking Task Force will help structure the education and networking opportunities in the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community and target vital industry topics and emerging trends related to health IT and informatics community. This task force will be led under the leadership of chair Crystal Vasquez, DNP, MS, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, director, solution innovation, Health Forum. Contact Trisha Pongco, coordinator, clinical informatics, HIMSS North America for more information. Join now.

Provide feedback to complete the big picture for 2016. This survey will capture current professional status, salary and practice trends, while identifying changes that have occurred over the years in the nursing informatics workforce.
