HIMSS Chapter Style Guide
At the Chapter Leader Exchange in July at the HIMSS Innovation Center, the integrated marketing and communications (IMC) team shared the HIMSS Style Guide.  Please refer to the style guide for all your chapter communications.

Six Steps to Follow to Connect with Journalists
Connecting with reporters to introduce the chapter or a chapter program requires the basic art and skill of storytelling. As a chapter leader, you can explain the value of information and technology based on achievements at a local hospital or physician practice. You can update a reporter on cybersecurity practices, perhaps with the perspective of a healthcare provider active in the chapter. Or – you can provide the reporter with information on information and technology for a variety of news articles, often stories that need a local angle.

Here are six steps to follow to identify and connect with journalists who write about information and technology, healthcare, and leadership
  1. Identify the news source of interest – the daily newspaper, a business publication, television station, or other news outlet.
  2. Find the reporter who covers healthcare, technology, business, leadership or computers.  These are broad search terms, but many reporters cover different areas within these news beats.
  3. Read the reporter's articles. Follow him/her on Twitter or on LinkedIn to see how she might use social platforms to introduce a story or discuss a certain topic.
  4. Contact the reporter by referencing an article he wrote.  This lets the reporter know you follow his byline and are interested in the articles he writes.
  5. Identify the story about the value of information and technology you want to tell the reporter. This news hook gives the reporter something to use for a story.
  6. Invite the reporter to a chapter program or for coffee – as an introduction to the chapter and at chapter expense.

Contact Joyce Lofstrom, senior director, communication, HIMSS North America, at 312-915-9237 or jlofstrom@himss.org to learn more about connecting with journalists.

Thank you to our Chapters for their support of National Health IT Week 2017
Thank you for your support and partnership that helped make National Health IT Week a fantastic success! With the collective voices of 500+ partners, we truly demonstrated the value of information and technology in improving wellness and having a positive impact on the quality, safety, cost-effectiveness and access of and to care. Thanks to many partner-driven activities, health stakeholders had an opportunity this week to unite under one banner with one message: the benefits that digital health technologies and workflows can bring to Americans, clinicians, and the US health system.

However, we need your feedback to advance this important initiative. Please fill out the brief NHIT Partner Week Survey. It should take no more than five minutes of your time. If you prefer, you can email your feedback directly to info@healthitweek.org

We will follow up shortly with updates on NHIT Week outcomes and successes, and you can continue to view activity at www.healthitweek.org. Don’t forget to march with us, if you have not already done so, and join our Virtual March on the States.
