Florida Health IT Day 2019 - Highlights

Angelique Robateau - Central North Florida HIMSS - Advocacy Chair

Florida Health IT Day 2019 at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 24th was a success. HIMSS Chapter Advocates executed a full agenda of knowledge sharing and relationship building with key Florida Health Organizations, elected officials and other attendees. The three amazing speakers shared thought-provoking information which triggered a high level of attendee participation and insightful relevant conversations. William Manzie – Administrative Director of Telehealth Strategy – Memorial Healthcare System, spoke about his Telehealth experiences at memorial. Summer Kahlon, MD – CIO Steward Healthcare Network and CNFL HIMSS Chapter President-Elect, simplified the new HIMSS definition of interoperability through use of an analogy and his global experiences on this topic. Lisa Rawlins – Managing Partner of Maury, Rawlins & Brown, provided an update on what’s been happening on ‘ the Hill’, on telehealth and interoperability bills and completed a walkthrough of how a bill becomes a law. Ms Rawlins, also shared with the Advocates, the importance of their voices, since each voice is important in creating change. The conversations continued during the day which included a scheduled meeting with newly appointed Secretary of AHCA, Mary Mayhew to discuss further the topics above.

Another memorable moment was Senator Harrell’s presentation of the Senate Florida Resolution to the HIMSS Chapter Advocates in the Senate Chamber.

Thanks the Central North Florida and South Florida HIMSS Chapters Advocates, Board members and the support of Valerie Rogers - Director, State Government Affairs at HIMSS North America and her team.
