Welcome to Austin HIMSS 2017-2018: A New Year for Community and Communication in Health IT

Today we welcome a new Austin HIMSS Board and thank those that volunteered in 2016 - 2017. 

Last year was a great success culminating in the Karen DeSalvo / Steve Steffenson event at the Dell Medical School in June. This year has also started off with a bang; our annual Health Tech Entrepreneurs event in July drew more than 60 Austin HIMSS members. Let's keep up the momentum! 

This year is all about Community and Communication.  Austin HIMSS plans to streamline our communications efforts, improve our website and media presence, and offer alternative social events, or "coffee breaks," to cater to smaller groups interested specific topics such as advocacy, security, or product design.

We also want to focus on building the future of our community through students of all kinds - STEM, HIT programs, med students and more. To that end, we will host a Lunch & Learn in October aimed at student and patient education where we will formally announce an updated scholarship program and plans to explore mentorship.
