Meet our new MT HIMSS Chapter President Elect - Earl Akers


"I've come to Montana from Kansas where I held progressively senior roles in the IT/EHR field, most recently with Salina Surgical Hospital. I have an extensive background in leading and supporting information systems strategic plans and platforms, developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity plans, and working with senior administrative and clinical staff to optimize information systems. I also bring expertise in information security and am currently working to achieve my CISSP certification."

Earl has over 12 years of demonstrated leadership in healthcare Information Technology initiatives, and more than 18 years of overall IT experience. Earl is an Information Security leader specializing in the development and implementation of information security programs, which includes procedures and policies designed to protect enterprise communications, systems and assets from both internal and external threats. Earl's span of experience within healthcare IT is rooted in formal systems administration and technical roles. His expertise includes EHR system selection, procurement, implementation and project oversight, IT strategic planning, enterprise-wide IT solutions, and IT operational management.

In addition, Earl served on the board of the Kansas Chapter of HIMSS prior to relocating to Montana to join Western Montana Mental Health Center. He proudly served for 7 years in the United States Air Force and spent 6 years as a Police Officer in Abilene, KS.

Earl holds many industry certifications including MCSE, MCITP and MCTS and is currently working to achieve his CISSP certification. He attended the University of Washington, University of Nebraska, and Kansas State University.
