President's Message

Fellow KSHIMSS Chapter members:

I am looking forward to serving as the chapter president for the next two years. As incoming president I would like noth- ing better than to meet each of you this year at one of our chapter events.

Under Chris Wilson and the board of directors leadership the last two years our chapter has grown and is flourishing. Our chapter has grown to 426 members strong and is growing every month. Our outstanding board of directors take their job seriously to provide quality programing so you can get the most out of your KSHIMSS Chapter member- ship. We are always looking for ways to provide value to the membership.

The new board term starts July 1, we have a nice mix of long standing board members and some new blood bringing in new energy and ideas. We have ambitious goals for the 2017 - 2019 board term. We are starting a chapter newsletter, we have already started work on the education confer- ence we hold in the
spring. Mark your calendars now to save the dates of May 3rd and 4th 2018, this event will be held in Wichita, KS.

We have a brand new Student/ Early career chair this term. We have made a commitment to provide scholarships to our chapter events for Kansas un- dergraduate students that would like to attend.

National HIMSS has a track to help military personal transi- tioning to civilian jobs to enter the Health IT field. Our chapter is on the lookout for the right person to be our new Board of Directors Military Chairperson. This person will have a military background and an interest in helping others learn what HIMSS has to offer Veterans interested in Health IT. If you fit this back- ground please reach out to me.

We are working to encourage our members to take ad- vantage of HIMSS national offerings such as applying to be a HIMSS Fellow. Getting the CPHIMSS certification and submitting a proposal to speak at the HIMSS national convention.

If you have not been involved in our chapter the place to start is by reaching out to myself, mcguire200@yahoo.com, or Shawn Weldin, sweld- in@sabethahospital.com, the chapter vice president. We welcome your ideas and we will find a place for you to get involved.
