Collaboration: Good Things Happen When We Work Together

CHIMSS prides itself in providing leading education, networking, and advocacy events for members and non-members interested in the role technology plays in supporting the delivery of care and the advancement of the quadruple aim. That said, CHIMSS is not alone in addressing key issues in Colorado and national healthcare….

Below are some organizations that you may want to check out. Most have events throughout the year that you can attend without being a member. And while you are there you can tell them about CHIMSS and invite them to attend our events.

CAHE (Colorado Association of Healthcare Executives)

CHA (Colorado Hospital Association)

List of Events

Colorado MGMA

A list of lunch and learns and educational events can be found here

Colorado HFMA

Of note, the national HFMA Conference is in Denver this year

Colorado Healthcare Strategy and Management

They offer relevant healthcare sessions on the 3rd Fridays of each month with a hiatus in the Summer.

All events seem virtual for the time being

If there is a Colorado Chapter of a healthcare related organization we should add to our list, please let me know (rmorris@inrule.com). Or if you are a member of one of these groups and have a contact that we could speak to about planning a collaborative event in the future that would be greatly appreciated.

Advocacy Day Recap

CHIMSS held its 11th Annual Advocacy Day meeting on April 26 at the McNichols Civic Center Building next to the Colorado State Capitol. Hal Wolf, the President and CEO of HIMSS, kicked off the event and introduced the Colorado Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera (actually the Governor for the week since Governor Polis was on vacation). Dianne Primavera addressed our state’s HealthIT Roadmap and current broadband initiatives. Colorado is one the leading states in government initiatives for Health IT. We then held three forward-thinking panels on Health Equity, Innovation, and Virtual engagement & Telehealth. The Health Equity panel included speakers from Public Health, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Health Institute, and the Colorado eHealth Commission who addressed diversity, equality and inclusivity in Health IT. Our Innovation panel included representatives from OeHI, UCHealth, venture capital, and our own Hal Wolf. This panel addressed future directions in Health IT with its potential, limitation, and funding strategies. Our final panel on Virtual Health included panelists from Rocky Mountain Health Plans, Mental Health Center of Denver, COPIC malpractice insurance carrier, and UCHealth’s Virtual Command Center. The panel discussed next steps for the Virtual health space including remote patient monitoring and improving access to telehealth. Our Advocacy Day brought together leaders and health professionals from across Colorado to share ideas and continue to advocate for the momentum we have in Healthcare IT.

Member Social Recap

It was wonderful March 31st to shake off the COVID cobwebs and reconnect with so many HIMSS Colorado members outside at Improper City in RiNO. We had a tented space to protect us from the chill and access to the Lucky Bird food truck. Most all our sponsors were in attendance as well as Leadership and IT staff from UC Health, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Denver Health, CommonSpirit Health, and Centura Health. Exciting to meet all those new faces who have come into town over the past couple of years or recently engaged (we’re looking at you University of Colorado - Pueblo!) and this was their first in-person Colorado HIMSS event!

Don’t miss our next Member Social on June 9 at Industry.  Need registration link

Informatics Event

Please save the date – Tuesday, May 24th – Noon-1 pm for our online seminar on Medical Device Cybersecurity.

In the movies, hackers make accessing information look so easy, but healthcare organizations are working as hard as they can to keep their organizations safe from cyberattacks. As medical devices become more advanced in their capabilities, there is an increased need to make them safe and secure when it comes to patients’ information and their safety.

Please join us for an online seminar that will include our Colorado HIMSS President Scott Raymond, Chief Information Officer - Global Healthcare at NetApp, and Richard Staynings, Chief Security Strategist for Cylera.
