UW Master of Health Informatics & Health Information Management degree

Dear Colleague,

Join us one weekend a month, for seven quarters, to earn your Master of Health Informatics & Health Information Management degree.

As you consider master’s degree options, I invite you to consider the Master of Health Informatics & Information Management (MHIHIM) degree here at the University of Washington. This part-time program is designed for working professionals and allows you to continue working full-time while pursuing your advanced degree.

Now in our third year, the MHIHIM program is marked by the demonstrated success of our students. A majority of students in the first cohort achieved promotions or new positions by their graduation date, including positions such as senior project manager, IT program director and health informatics and metrics coordinator. Our graduates are employed in a variety of positions and organizations throughout the Northwest and beyond.

One of the strengths of the MHIHIM program is the diversity of the working professionals we enroll each year. Our students come from varied backgrounds, including roles as patient administrators, physicians, IT professionals, health information and clinic managers, dental professionals, pharmacists, RNs, business analysts and research coordinators. This creates a rich learning environment where students can draw on the experiences and strengths of each other.

Our challenging curriculum weaves together leadership development, health administration and advanced health informatics content to prepare you for tomorrow’s industry challenges. You’ll develop the transformational leadership skills needed to manage large organizations — while also gaining expertise on the business and operations side of health information management and technology. Capstone projects provide opportunities to use classroom learning in the real world. Students work directly with industry partners to design problem-solving initiatives that contribute to enterprise quality improvement goals.
